Turtle meets Alligator!
I photographed this encounter of a painted turtle and alligator at the Wakodhatchee Wetland area in Florida. It is a bit comical in that it appears the turtle is peaking around the tree stump; see's the alligator, its rear feet fling out behind him in pure fright!
Alligators do eat these turtles when they can catch them but this scene really depicts something different. Animals such as this turtle sense when an alligator is not in feeding mode. You can often see turtles and other prey animals getting pretty close to a gator.
