Historic Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia....
Photographs taken 2009 thru 2016.
The Historic Area is a Colonial American city, with exhibits including dozens of authentic or accurately recreated colonial houses and buildings relating to 18th century American Revolutionary period.
The key to getting interesting pictures is to isolate your subject. Begin shooting early in the morning before most visitors arrive. Another trick; visit the site during off-season periods as there will be less tourists enabling you to get images without bystanders in the background.
Photo-ops abound. A little patience waiting for that great image is worth it.
My Grandfather, Stephen Brod, was a tailor in Kansas City, Missouri. Truman was a U.S. Senator in Washington D.C. when introduced to my Grandfather by Ted Marks. Mr. Marks was Truman's tailor for many years and upon retiring from the profession it was my Grandfather he recommended to Senator Truman in 1944.
My Grandfather continued to tailor handmade suits for Truman throughout his Presidency. He visited President Truman at the Whitehouse in Washington, DC. One of those visits he was flown to Washington via a small Naval airplane to put the final touches on the tuxedo President Truman wore at his inaugural event. This was before the comfort of private chartered jets. Grandpa said he was never more sick being buffeted around by the wind in that small plane. He refused to fly back and instead was provided transportation by train.
There are letters from the White House to my Grandfather signed by President Truman. Kansas City Times newspaper articles and Western Union Telegrams. I still have a couple more items yet to be uploaded.
These are photographs of the actual documents.

BABY BIRDS TO ZOO LIONS. RABBITS TO MY CAT MOLLY. THE LIZARD IMAGE WAS TAKEN ON MY DECK IN COASTAL NORTH CAROLINA. HE WAS A VERY COOPERATIVE SUBJECT. IN FACT, I HAD MANY ANOLES EATING OUT OF MY HAND, LITERALLY. THEY WOULD JUMP FROM A DECK RAIL TO MY HAND TO EAT A MEAL WORM OR WAXWORM. BABY BLUEBIRDS IN WAKE FOREST, NC., LIONS FROM THE ZOO IN SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
Because I photograph so many herons I've given them their own gallery. They are such majestic birds and fun to watch in the wild. Much time has been spent capturing images seen here. I watched the feeding heron for about two hours before getting the images of him catching and eating the fish.
Feel free to try the slideshow option to view the photographs.
Enjoy,
Chris
A “SLIDE SHOW” FUNCTION IS AVAILABLE. PHOTOGRAPHS WILL BE HIGH DEFINITION FULL SCREEN.
Most of my butterfly images are captured with a Canon 100mm f2.8L IS Macro lens. Occasionally I'll use a small extension tube with the lens.
Butterfly shots are most often taken handheld versus trying to use a tripod. Hard enough chasing them around with the large camera and lens - an attached tripod for the most part is simply not an option. So, often times a lot of images need to be taken to get a handfull of successful pictures.
I was fortunate to get a few images of this manatee drinking from a hose. Manatees love fresh water to drink. I saw a charter boat captain do this once a couple years ago so when we spotted this one I grabbed the dock hose. After getting a drink facing the water the manatee went under the dock, turned on his back and positioned his mouth under the running water.

THIS IS A PROJECT I STARTED BECAUSE I'M OFTEN OUT EARLY IN THE MORNING LOOKING FOR BIRDS. THIS IS WHAT I OFTEN SEE WHILE SCOUTING AROUND EARLY IN THE MORNING. SO, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO TAKE THE PHOTOGRAPH TO ACCENTUATE THE SHAPE OF THE BIRD WITHOUT COLOR DISTRACTION. IT CAN BE CHALLENGING TO GET INTERESTING IMAGES AS THEY NEED TO BE TACK SHARP AND STOP MOTION OF THE BIRD IN A WAY THAT EMPHASIZE
SHAPE.
Fries New River Trail RV Park in Fries, Virginia is a wonderful place to stay! Relaxed, quiet and peaceful are words you could use when describing the atmosphere. A great place to go and escape the summer heat too. The town of Fries is an easy walk from the RV Park. Close by are many trails to choose from when hiking or cruising on your bicycle.
By the way, Fries is pronounced 'Freeze'.
WE TRAVEL TO FLORIDA OFTEN AND I TAKE EVERY OPORTUNITY TO PHOTOGRAPH BIRDS WHILE THERE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE BIRD PHOTOGRAPHS FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES IN THIS GROUP OF IMAGES. HOPE YOU ENJOY THESE.......
THERE IS A “SLIDE SHOW” FUNCTION IN THE UPPER RIGHT OF THE SCREEN AS AN OPTION FOR VIEWING.
